Sources speaking to Awj News have confirmed that Mohammad Hamed Miwand, Technical Director and Head of Training at the Afghanistan Football Federation, was shot by armed assailants in front of his home and killed. The shooting occurred on Monday, and Miwand succumbed to his injuries in the hospital yesterday.

However, the Taliban have blocked free reporting of the news, and the Afghanistan Football Federation, in an official statement, merely noted that Mohammad Hamed Miwand “passed away,” deliberately using vague language that conceals the true nature of the incident.

Taliban-affiliated media have followed the same approach, reporting that Mohammad Hamed Miwand “died in an incident” without mentioning the armed attack, a method that appears more aimed at hiding the truth than informing the public.

Mohammad Hamed Miwand’s body was buried today in his family cemetery at Shaheed-e-Salehin.

This is not the first time members of the Afghanistan Football Federation have been targeted. About a month ago, Ahmad Farhad Adel, captain of the Yashlar football team in Faryab Province, was killed in Herat, an event that was also accompanied by silence and ambiguous narratives.
